“I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. 2 Pray this way for kings and ALL who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.”
– 1 Timothy 2:1-2
I chose his particular scripture after speaking with friends and family for the last few weeks regarding the 2024 presidential election. I found that a lot of them did not know which presidential candidate to vote for. Now that the election is over, some are worried about what’s to come.
I tried my best to assure them that all will be well based on my personal understanding of the above scripture.
The scripture specifically says to pray for kings and ALL who are in authority. To ask God to help them so that we may live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness.
Our current government does not consist of kings, however, the president does fall under the umbrella of those in “authority”.
With that being said, I strongly believe that we should vote for whoever we believe will address our needs the best. No matter who gets voted into the White House, it is imperative that we do our due diligence and hold our local representatives accountable for what we want to get done. Our local representatives are the ones who will ultimately make a difference within our state and our communities.
We need to be prayerful when choosing a candidate and then continue to pray for them after they are in office. We need to ask God to touch their hearts and guide their decisions.
At the end of the day, we must not worry about the things we cannot control. We just need to pray, wait, and trust that God is in control of everything in the world.
