A Good Night’s Rest

Friday 10/11/2024
“In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.”
-Psalm 4:8

Psalm 4:8 reminds us that we can and should sleep in peace.

Most of us often neglect sleep and quality rest. When we do finally lay our heads down, we’re restless in sleep because our minds are filled with all of the things going on in our lives and the things going on in the world around us; especially those of us with kids.

King David was no stranger to adversity and persecution. Yet, even at the end of a long and troubling day, he declared, “I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety” (Psalm 4:8).

God intends for us to lie down and sleep in peace. If our minds are fixed on all of the issues in this world prior to going to sleep, we will be restless in our sleep. Without a good night sleep, our minds, our bodies, and our souls cannot recover from the everyday stresses that they are exposed to. We are forgetting the promises that God has given us. When we fix our minds on Him alone and the safety and the security that He promises, we will then be open to receive the peace and blessed assurance from God that David so often refers to.

As you lay your head down on your pillow tonight, do yourself a favor and recite Psalm 4:8.
When you are done, know that you are safe in the arms of God, secure in the promises of God, and you are able to rest in the peace of God.
